Serene Studio Surface Pattern + Packaging
Three designs I created for a larger collection, Serene Studio, that was developed for a national retailer. The loose art direction for this theme included “peacefulness of space, ombre shading, texture in the absence of color, and marble surfaces.”
I created one of the patterns, Suleiman. The quatrefoil is one of my favorite design motifs. It’s ancient, widely used in art and architecture, and easily adaptable; I used this as my point of departure. For the surface pattern, I was trying to arrive at a layered effect of time-worn but mutable textures, while incorporating the structure of a repeating pattern (in this case, a heavily manipulated quatrefoil). Something you’d like to rest your eyes on for a while and that maintains your interest.
Finalizing the pattern assets into manageable file sizes for various package specifications, as well as achieving reliable output for mass production, required a lot of back and forth between Photoshop, Illustrator, masks and repeating vector patterns to achieve the look I was going for.
