Meyer Outlet Sale – Design & Illustration
Meyer’s annual Outlet Sale, in which the company opens its warehouses to the public, has been an anticipated tradition in Vallejo for over 25 years. It’s also a chance for staff designers to take some liberties with company brand guidelines to promote this widely publicized event.
My concept for the 2022 Outlet Sale, called “House of Meyer”, was conceived as a holiday invitation from our house, “House of Meyer”, to yours. I aimed to create an announcement that felt intimate, celebratory, and aspirational — alluding to the tradition of stocking your home for the holiday season, and the anticipation, love, and warmth associated with that yearly ritual.
Visual inspiration came from European holiday night markets and vintage storefront signage styles. The modular structure displays elements evocative of a home pantry/kitchen or a storefront stocked with wares: illustrations depict products sold at the event, and abstract patterns such as curling wafts of steam, vintage oven burner covers, and radiant burner flames further elaborate on the context.
The background features snowflakes composed of rotated cutlery (I’ve been calling them utensilflakes: spatulaflake, cutleryflake & ladleflake) set against a deep blue of wintery nights, in contrast to the warmer oranges of the foreground elements inside the House of Meyer, glowing and cozy; a place you want to be.
